Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja has now taken more wickets than Irfan Pathan in ODI matches during the Asia Cup, making him the top wicket-taker for India in this tournament.

Record-Breaking Performance

Jadeja achieved this milestone during a Super Four stage match against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium on a Tuesday. In that game, he managed to secure two wickets, giving away 33 runs. With this performance, the Indian left-arm spinner has now accumulated a total of 24 wickets in 18 innings, surpassing Irfan Pathan’s 22 wickets in just 12 innings.

Kuldeep Yadav is also a strong contender in this race, having taken 19 wickets in just nine innings.

Looking at the bigger picture, Jadeja currently ranks as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in the history of the Asia Cup. The top spot in this prestigious list is held by Muthiah Muralidaran, who boasts an impressive 30 wickets in 24 innings.

India’s bowling unit worked together to put an end to Sri Lanka’s impressive unbeaten streak of 13 ODI matches. This victory also secured India’s place in the final of the Asia Cup 2023 with one game still to be played.

The match took place at the R. Premadasa Stadium on a Tuesday, and Sri Lanka was dismissed for just 172 runs while trying to chase down a relatively low target. In the game, both teams saw spinners taking center stage, but the pacers also made their presence felt in India’s 41-run triumph over the co-hosts.
