A Whopping Prize of Rs 25 Crore

A lottery ticket that was purchased from an agency in Walayar, Palakkad, bearing the ticket number TE230662, emerged as the first prize winner in Kerala’s most substantial lottery event, the Thiruvonam bumper.

The first prize for this lottery is a whopping Rs 25 crore. In a special event held at Gorki Bhavan, the Finance Minister, K.N. Balagopal, had the honor of selecting the first prize winner for the Thiruvonam bumper lottery.

Record Ticket Sales

This remarkable lottery, which is priced at Rs 500 per ticket, achieved an extraordinary feat this year by selling a staggering 75.76 lakh tickets out of the 85 lakh tickets that were printed. It’s important to note that a maximum of 90 lakh tickets can be printed for this particular category. Last year, there was a significant increase in the first prize, which went from Rs 15 crore to an impressive Rs 25 crore, marking the first time it had reached this level. This change resulted in a record number of tickets being sold, with 66,55,914 tickets out of the 67,50,000 printed tickets finding buyers.

Deductions from Prize Money

For the lucky first-prize winner, it’s essential to be aware that the prize money will be given after deducting 10% as agent commission and a 30% tax from the total prize amount. This year, the State Lotteries Department has made significant changes to the prize structure.

Distribution of Second Prize

The second prize, which used to be a single Rs 5 crore prize for one lucky winner last year, has now been divided into 20 prizes of Rs 1 crore each. Likewise, the third prize has also seen a change, with 20 winners receiving Rs 50 lakh each, compared to the previous year when 10 winners received Rs 1 crore each.

The fourth and fifth prizes have also been adjusted, with 10 individuals now winning Rs 5 lakh each for the fourth prize and another 10 individuals winning Rs 2 lakh each for the fifth prize.

These changes in the prize distribution were made after consulting with the public and lottery agents, aiming to offer prizes to a larger number of people and make the lottery experience more inclusive.
